It happened one day that Lilith met the Shekhinah and recognized her as the presence of God that shelters and holds the cosmos.
“Blessed Mother,” Lilith said, “I have sought the mysteries of God and saw their glory shining through all things, but I am no closer to understanding who I am or why I am here?”
The Shekhinah led Lilith to Mount Moriah and said, “Dance.”
Lilith pondered this command, since there was no music. Held in this silence, the bird song twittered around the mountain. The beating of the heart within provided a rhythm, and Lilith moved the body of clay. Heart rate quickened. Breath pulsed with vibrant staccato. Joy erupted throughout the body, tingling in the skin, encouraging Lilith the cry out, adding an exuberant voice to the song.
The Shekhinah took Lilith by the hand, and they dance through the day into the night. Raucous, foot pounding dances; and slow, intimate ones where they held each other closer than breath and deeper than skin. The more Lilith inhabited body, the more self-knowledge arose.
As the sun rose, Lilith thanked the Shekhinah and continued exploring the world.
