When the temple was first built on Mount Moriah, Lilith slipped into the Holy of Holies under the cover of night.
Standing before the Ark of The Covenant, she said, “Holy One, I have seen the suffering of your people and have done what I could to bring them ease, grace, and justice, yet slander and insults cloud my name. I am not angry. I know we are all made in your image. Your light shines through all of us, even when we refuse to see it.
“This day, I vow to be the Mother of Outcasts. For as long a people walk this earth, they will name others as outsiders to boost their egos and entrench their power. I will guide them to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly before you.”
